Electronic Identification Codes Must Be Obtained by June 30, 2025

NEXORA LAWFIRM assists clients in responding to Vietnam's digital administrative reforms, including the procedure for obtaining an electronic authentication code (electronic identification code). By June 30, 2025, all local companies, branches, representative offices, and other organizations in Vietnam are required to obtain an electronic identification code; failure to do so risks losing the ability to make any electronic filings or reports at all. This article sets out, in clear terms, an overview of the system, how to obtain the code, points to watch, and applicable penalties, along with concrete advice for companies that are behind on preparation.

01 - Why Obtaining a Corporate Electronic Identification Account Matters

Under Decree No. 69/2024/NĐ-CP, which took effect on June 25, 2024, provincial public security authorities across Vietnam are now strongly encouraging every company to obtain an "electronic identification code" (corporate electronic identification account).

A corporate electronic identification code is the account required for a company to log in to and authenticate with Vietnam's national electronic identification app and online administrative service platforms (such as dinhdanhdientu.gov.vn and vneid.gov.vn), and to use the various administrative services offered on them. This electronic identification code also enables linkage with a range of electronic services provided by other agencies and organizations.

It is particularly important to note that, from July 1, 2025, companies that have not obtained a corporate electronic identification code will find that all of their existing accounts for administrative procedures become invalid, leaving them unable to carry out any administrative procedure — including the submission of activity reports. Every company should therefore move quickly to obtain its corporate electronic identification code to avoid operational disruption.

02 - How to Obtain an Electronic Identification Account

There are two ways to obtain a corporate electronic identification account:

The company's legal representative or an authorized agent (holding a Level 2 account) submits an online application through a national identification app such as VNeID.
Applying in person at the counter of the competent public security authority.

If there are no issues with the application, the electronic identification account is normally issued within 3 to 5 business days. However, if the company's information is not found in the public security authority's database, or if there is a discrepancy between the database and the application, additional verification is required, and issuance of the account can take approximately 15 to 20 business days.

Once the electronic identification account has been issued, we recommend promptly logging in and completing an operational check and initial setup on the national service platform and elsewhere. The electronic identification credentials obtained must also be kept securely and used consistently for all future administrative procedures.

To allow time for any unexpected verification work or corrections, we strongly recommend completing the application procedure no later than May 30, 2025.
